Northern Art Carbooty 2018

2018 marked the sixth year of the Northern Art Carbooty programme, as it returned to Manchester for the August Bank Holiday Sunday. Northern Art Carbooty is an extravaganza of art, craft, live performance, workshop activity, food and music.

A one day arts event, Northern Art Carbooty works with artists and designers to encourage new artistic collaborations, between one another but also with the communities located in and around where the event takes place. The event encourages the production, sale and participation in high quality art creation and experiences.

For 2018, the Carbooty brand was partnered with NOMA and their annual Sadler’s Yard Summer Jam festival, inviting a host of new artists and designers alongside the return of much loved favourites such as Stanley Chow, Nicola Dale, YAY Studio and Hot Bed Press. New test pilot bursaries were also offered to artists Jenny Steele, Helena Lee and Carbooty founder Tasha Whittle, trying out new designs in collaboration with other designers.

The event was animated by two new performative commissions by Nicola Smith and Gemma Parker, themed around women’s suffrage. Finally our regular Over60s art group, Many Hands Craft Collective collaborated with artists Lydia Meiying and Elaine Ayling to co-produce a new series of designed products to sell on the day.
